Fishing Tackle Box

The whole point behind a fishing tackle box is to store and carry all your fishing tackle and therefore leads to  organized fishing. It´s purpose is similar to that of a toolbox, to safe keep and be able to take it with you when you are on the job. It should have several special compartments to hold lures, hooks, sinkers, lures, leaders, rods, and lines.

Most anglers will end up with many more than one tackle box. There will be an assortment of specialized boxes that go form the large, highly compartmentalized boxes, to the specific - a fly box for example. Depending on the type of fishing you practice, the tackle box scenario can be not only large, but quite interesting as well.

Some of the Different Types of Fishing Tackle Boxes Are:

Plastic Fishing Tackle Boxes

Plastic boxes will come in a huge array of sizes, colors and variety of compartments for your tackle.

Depending on the type of plastic some models are more durable than others. The softer the plastic, the more easy it is to damage or puncture it. Brittleness is also a factor as they can split. Not the best position to be in if you are wading in the middle of a stream and trying to change a fly.

Metal Tackle Boxes

A metal tackle box is very durable and does not puncture easily. They are usually made from aluminum, and therefore light. However, they can easily be dented by hard impacts. They also clang about when dropped. If it is dark or drops into a hole in the ground, in shrubs or difficult places to reach, the noise helps you locate them. When closed they will float for a time - and this has to sides to it. It is easier to recover, but if the stream is flowing you can also see it as it disappears in the distance.

Fabric Boxes Fishing Tackle

Tackle boxes made from fabric look like a bag or pouch with various pockets. It usually has a zipper to close and is easier to carry. It is also quite surprising how much it can carry.

Choosing Your Tackle Boxes (Buying Tips)

Trays: Some fishermen use a toolbox for their tackle box, but we recommend you buy one that is designed for tackle, not tools. Choose one with various more layers of removable trays to maximize space, and help you organize your stuff.

Compartments: Choose the ones that have different compartment to help you organize the different groups of fishing accessories you have. Look for models with a bulk storage area for holding the line on reels, coils, and other items.
